On December 2, SCDI was honored to join the celebration of HSBC Vietnam’s 155th year in Vietnam. This milestone is not only a story of business achievements, but also a story of trust in communities and belief in social initiatives that create lasting change. Along this journey, SCDI is proud to stand alongside HSBC Vietnam in shaping meaningful, sustainable impact for children and families.
The partnership began during the very first days of social distancing in the COVID-19 pandemic. At a time when children experiencing homelessness and low-income families were pushed to their limits, HSBC’s timely support helped provide safe shelter, ensured food reached families and students had devices to continue learning online. That initial connection opened a much longer pathway than any of us had imagined.
From there, HSBC continued to walk with us through the most challenging stages of building Breaking the Cycle, an ecosystem designed to help children and families break free from intergenerational poverty. When the model was still just an idea, without data or proof of concept, HSBC chose to believe in the vision and in the communities we serve. That trust allowed SCDI to steadily develop structured interventions, expand support, and create real, visible change for 246 children and their families within the first two years.
That belief has continued to grow. Recently, Breaking the Cycle was selected as one of 27 finalists for the 2025 Human Act Prize, a recognition not only of the model’s progress but also of the shared confidence that HSBC Vietnam and our partners helped cultivate from the very beginning.
This year, as HSBC Vietnam marks its 155th anniversary, our collaboration continues through the Adopting a Dream initiative. Forty children saw their dreams come true, not simply as gifts, but as a reminder that every child deserves the chance to reach toward their own future.
Looking back, the most meaningful part of this journey is not just in the numbers or milestones, but in the 'creating shared value' mindset. When societal development and business growth move hand in hand, the impact extends far beyond each child or each family. It helps build a stronger, more inclusive community, which in turn becomes the foundation for sustainable development for all of us.
SCDI extends our warmest congratulations to HSBC on 155 remarkable years in Vietnam, and our heartfelt gratitude for the trust and meaningful partnership. With shared belief and shared action, we look forward to continuing to plant seeds of hope so every child and every community can grow to their fullest potential.
