      The “Saving the Future – Innovative Strategies to Control HIV Infection among Young people who Use Drugs in Vietnam” has completed the initial study and moved to the next phase of developing an effective intervention strategy for young people who use drugs. In March 10th, 2017, a conference has been held in Fortuna hotel, Hanoi to announce the initial research results.

      After 4 years of implementation, SANL CD10/CD15 had come to an end. To send the sincerest thanks to CBOs who took part in the project, SCDI held a Gala Night and a Tribute day in Hoi An city, Quang Nam province on December 17th and 18th, 2015 with the participation of 12 CBOs in Vietnam.

      Prospects for humane and effective drug policies in Southeast Asia
      During the week of March 13-17th 2017, the 60th session of the United Nations Commission on Narcotic Drugs (CND) took place in Vienna, Austria. At one of the side events focusing on Southeast Asia region, Nguyen Minh Trang, VNPUD Networker from SCDI) had a presentation about the organization and the development of voluntary drug treatment services in Vietnam.

      Tracing people who inject drugs (PWID) is extremely difficult, and the termination of the HIV epidemic among this group is still a big question. Therefore, "Ending HIV epidemics among PWID" project - DRIVE-IN stage was launched and deployed in Haiphong.

      From October 4th to October 7th 2016, Blue Sky Week (BSW) 2016 was held in the cities Vijayawada Hyderabad, India. This is an International HIV/AIDS Alliance key event which takes place annually in each region.

      Press conference on the project “Saving the Future – Innovative Strategies to Control HIV Infection among Young people who Use Drugs in Vietnam”
      In the occasion of the 1st visit to Vietnam by French President Francois Hollande, an agreement on cooperation in Medicine has been signed between SCDI and Expertise France, with regards to the project “Saving the Future – Innovative Strategies to Control HIV Infection among Young people who Use Drugs in Vietnam”. On September 5th, a press conference has been held in SCDI office in order to welcome guests from Expertise France and broadly present the project to communities.

      On May 15, 2016, in Hanoi, Nguyen Su Yen Mi from Can Tho was crowned Miss Transgender Star. SCDI was honored to be the Diamond Sponsor, collaborating with the Vietnam Network of Transgender in organizing the contest.

      Dream Journey summer camps 2016 were organized in Hai Phong and Vung Tau on the 25th and 26th June 2016. This year, the camp held the topic of “I love the ocean” and invited over 50 children whose parents were among the vulnerability communities.

      In March 2016, Loving Milk, a program initiated by SCDI with the donation from Danone Vietnam CO., LTD, had provided more than 43 tons of power milk for more than 20,000 disadvantaged children in 40 provinces in Vietnam.

      Summer Camp is an annual activity to support the participation of children with disadvantaged background in Vietnam. Joining Summer Camp, the children can participate in many educative as well as interactive activities. Classes providing useful knowledge and life-skills are integrated with enjoyable activities in a healthy and positive environment to boost and motivate the children’s participation.

      In Vietnam, while key affected populations actively and strongly participate in HIV prevention, community’s movement in Tuberculosis control is rather quiet. With efforts of a number of concerned organizations such as the Center for Supporting Community Development Initiatives (SCDI) and the World Health Organization (WHO), the community has paid attention to TB activities starting with the self-nomination of community delegates as TB patient representatives in the Global Fund’s Country Coordinating Mechanism (CCM).

      In the context that HIV/AIDS remains prevalent, resources for HIV response are largely reduced, the sustainability of community-base organizations are strongly affected, and several barriers for PLHIV to access to services exist, this year Annual Meeting of the Vietnam Civil Society Partnership Platform on AIDS, organized in Da Nang from 12th – 14th November 2014, has fulfilled the needs for experience sharing and learning of VCSPA members.

      On November 5th, 2015, Bac Giang’s Department for Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs and the People Committee organized an opening ceremony for a new community drug treatment site located in Da Mai’s commune health clinic, Bac Giang province.

      A workshop on the roles and effectiveness of Community Social Volunteer Teams (CSVT) was held in Da Nang on December 12th, 2015 to summarize capacity building activities as well as introduce the Volunteer Handbook, and the indicators for success for the CSVT system in the country.

      In order to strengthen the capacity to support community-based drug treatment, SCDI organized a training on organizing and facilitation skills for 10 community-based drug counselling, support and treatment and a voluntary drug treatment in Bac Giang.

      In March 2017, Dr Khuat Thi Hai Oanh, SCDI Director has traveled to Geneva, Switzerland to attend the meeting of WHO's Technical and Strategic Advisory Committee on HIV, Hepatitis Virus and to Paris, France to join the advisory committee for the preparation of 9th IAS Conference on HIV Science (IAS 2017).

      On the occasion of Vietnamese Women's Day October 20th, Women's Publishing House has published the book " Ba Trieu’s 21st century daughters " as a special gift dedicated to all Vietnamese women, where 20 prominent female characters were sketched with unique imprint. Doctor Khuat Thi Hai Oanh - SCDI Director is honored as one of the most inspiring women figured in this book.
